The parallel keys are made of stainless steel. There are many different sizes of parallel keys made of stainless steel.This means that the right parallel key can be found for every connection for the most varied force transmissions.  The feather keys connect shafts with gear wheels. This makes a frictional connection possible. At the same time, the feather keys act as so-called predetermined breaking points in the event of overload. The parallel keys shear off in the middle. By shearing off such predetermined breaking points, shafts and gears are protected against unwanted overload. If this were not the case, the entire gearbox would often suffer much greater damage. Parallel keys are mainly used in shaft grooves. To avoid rust build-up, the feather keys should always be made of V2A or V4A.
